A hidden gem along the Sierra Leone Coast.

A well needed retreat away from the hustle and bustle from the chaos of city living in Lagos. Roughly a 3hr drive from Freetown will bring you to one of West Africa's largest sand beaches.

We spent 3 days here at the beach resort called "The Palace". We had a beach view room right along the waterfront. The room was spacious with a large dressing area and large bathroom. At night from the room you could hear the sounds of crashing waves along the beach when you are tired ready to sleep cuddled up in bed.

The resort itself if well kept and maintained and the staff are all so friendly.

We enjoyed all our meals here daily. My favourite meal was a barracuda grilled and topped it a garlic sauce and side vegetables. Barracuda has always been one of my favourite fish and this dish was delicious.

"Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach"

Each afternoon we enjoyed long walks along beach enjoy though it rained most of the time we were there which was expected since we are still in the wet season. We had some laughs with some local kids along beach who were more then happy to show us their dance moves and athletic skills. Even drew us some pictures in the sand of what the local fish looked like that was being caught around the bay.

The walks were so peaceful and at some points we were the only two on the beach strolling hand in hand. One afternoon we walked to where the river meets the ocean to see if we could cross to the other side. From my boyfriends previous trips it was manageable walk waist high to cross but this time it while above our heads and involved a short swim to reach the rocks. After some convincing and swimming first to the other side my non swimmer boyfriend managed to reach me safely and stayed on our own secluded little beach and took some photos before heading back since the rain was getting harder.

I really felt like this mini vacation was needing since moving has been a huge adjustment and one of the things I struggle the most with is not being in nature. I miss the mountains, beaches, parks and blue skies at home. I am a true believer that time outside is natures reset button and it grounds you.
